IIAP NAS RA and NECTEC Explore Strategic Cooperation in High-Performance Computing

During a recent visit to Thailand, Dr. Hrachya Astsatryan, Director of the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (IIAP NAS RA), met with the leadership of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). The meeting focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and related technologies.

Hosted at Thailand Science Park, the Armenian delegation was given a guided tour of the NSTDA Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC), one of the most advanced HPC facilities in the ASEAN region. ThaiSC is home to the LANTA supercomputer, which serves as a key infrastructure for cutting-edge research and development in computational science, supporting a broad range of scientific and industrial applications.

Dr. Piyawut Srichaikul, Ph.D.(Deputy Executive Director of NSTDA) delivered an in-depth presentation on the architecture, capabilities, and strategic objectives of the LANTA supercomputer, highlighting its role in accelerating innovation across disciplines such as artificial intelligence, climate modeling, and bioinformatics. The tour provided an excellent opportunity for IIAP representatives to learn about Thailand’s national strategy in advancing computational infrastructure and fostering regional research collaboration.

Following the tour, Dr. Astsatryan and Dr. Srichaikul engaged in a focused discussion, during which both sides presented their institutional missions, ongoing research initiatives, and strategic priorities. The exchange revealed several potential areas of mutual interest, including HPC-driven scientific modeling, smart infrastructure, and capacity-building in advanced computing.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further dialogue and cooperation, setting the groundwork for possible joint projects, exchange programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives between IIAP NAS RA and NECTEC. Both institutions emphasized the importance of international collaboration in strengthening their respective research ecosystems and contributing to global scientific advancement.
