Specialization
In the department fundamental research in the fields of probabilistic Shannon information theory, classical and quantum statistics, modeling of multi - scale physical-chemical processes is carried out. Important results of research in this direction started in 60-ies of the last century are given in monograph [1]. Selected publications in the past five years are given in the list.

Reliability Criterion in Information Theory
Head of Direction Mariam Haroutunian
See more
The main objective of the research is to investigate the function expressing the optimal interdependence of main characteristics (transmission rate, error probability, reliability, distortion level, etc.) of complex systems for information reliable transmission, security and compression. Particularly, results are obtained for discrete memoryless channel, for various models of multiple access, broadcast, two-way and interference channels; for compound channel, channel with random parameter and arbitrary varying channel; as well as for various models of sources. Last years information-theoretical investigations are carried out on models of information hiding systems, of channels with confidential messages, of identification systems based on biometric data. The results are useful for the development of stable and reliable systems and to assess their capabilities. The solutions enable to evaluate the system bounds and determine the effectiveness of the proposed system or code.

Investigations in this direction are mainly devoted to the problems of statistical hypotheses testing. Previous results and future researches relates to the following groups:
- elaboration of optimal methods for statistical hypotheses testing and evaluation of possibilities for a fixed number of results of experiments,
- study the problems of logarithmically asymptotically optimal (LAO) testing for infinite number of experimental data,
- applications of statistical methods and particularly, of hypotheses testing numerical solutions in the fields of natural science, medicine, population and others.

The objectives of scientific direction are theoretical, algorithmic and numerical studies of the multiscale and complex physical-chemical processes. In particular the following studies are carried out:
- Theoretical studies of the quantum and classical multichannel scattering in the few-body systems. Creation of corresponding algorithms and program tools for numerical simulations of problems.
- Theoretical study of statistical properties of the random quantum processes and creation of corresponding algorithms for their numerical simulations.
- Theoretical study of disordered spin systems. Creation of the high-performance program package for the numerical simulation of the problems.
Various fields of modern mathematics are used on the way of implementation of researches. Numerical calculations of problems are realized by well-known programs (Mathematica, MATLAB, MAPLE) and also by special program packages created on C++ language.
