CSIT23: Bridging Frontiers in Computer Science and Information Technology

The CSIT23 International Conference, hosted by the Institute of Informatics and Automation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, the fourteenth in a series of biennial conferences, took place in Yerevan last Autumn. The conference was held in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and brought together leading researchers, scientists and professionals across various domains within Computer Science and Information Technologies. The conference commenced with welcome notes by Yuri Shoukourian, a well-known and respected academician from the National Academy of Science, and Vardan Sahakyan, Deputy President from the Armenian Foundation of Science and Technology.

A captivating talk on Visualisation of Multidimensional Data delved into the intricate world of data science, emphasising the significance of visualisation as a means for sophisticated data analysis. With a focus on non-linear projection methods and the web-based Orange solution, the presentation showcased applications in regional economic development and fraudulent transactions detection. The talk on the Identification of nearly monotone Boolean functions unfolded like a mathematical journey through the complexities of Boolean functions. From the basics of monotone functions to exploring the identification of more intricate classes like 2-monotone Boolean functions, the  presenter ‘wove a tale of mathematical elegance and problem-solving’.  The exploration of the complexity of larger classes illuminated the audience with new perspectives on the challenges inherent in understanding Boolean functions.

Professor Ruben Abagyan from the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of California, in his talk High-performance computing, 3D docking, AI and GPU pipelines transported the audience into the world of molecular docking and machine learning. Offering insights into the challenges of exponentially growing data sizes in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, he showcased the potential of AI- and GPU-powered tools to accelerate drug discovery processes. Abagyan’s examples of successful applications, including a new cancer target and kinases associated with Alzheimer’s disease, demonstrated the impactful intersection of technology and life sciences.

CSIT23 was not only a hub for learning, but also a dynamic networking environment where participants had the opportunity to connect with peers, scientific leaders and potential collaborators.
